Eva Conley Kendrick is a composer, vocalist and voice instructor. She is the Director of Music at First Parish Medfield, Director of the Eva Kendrick Voice Studio, and Professor of Voice at Dean College. She was also the Chair of the Music Theory Department at the Community Music Center of Boston for 12 years, where she was composer-in-residence and on the Voice Faculty.
As a composer, Kendrick writes in many genres including opera, musical theatre, choral music, chamber music, and song cycles. Commissions include Boston Opera Collaborative, the Longy School of Music, Dinosaur Annex, the New Gallery Concert Series, the Providence Mandolin Orchestra, and more. Opera companies which have performed her works include Boston Opera Collaborative, the Thompson St. Opera Company (Louisville, KY), One Ounce Opera (Austin, TX) and Gateway Opera (St. Louis, MO). Composition awards include the Judith Lang Zaimont Prize from the International Alliance of Women in Music, 2nd Prize in The American Prize, Massachusetts Cultural Council Grants, ASCAPLU$ Awards and an American Composers Forum Grant.
She is the Director of the Eva Kendrick Voice Studio (EKVS), where she teaches students of all ages and levels of experience. Students of hers have appeared on Broadway and in National Broadway tours including Les Miserables, Matilda, White Christmas, Tuck Everlasting, Annie and The Sound of Music as well as regional theatre. Student awards include a Jimmy Awards Nominee, NATS Student Auditions (national, state and regional), Hal Leonard Vocal Competition and more. She directs two a cappella groups: Trills ‘n Chills (high school) and Cats & Boots (middle school).
As a Director of Music, Kendrick is active within the Association of Unitarian Universalist Music Ministries. She is a graduate of the UUA Music Leadership Certification Program and is a noted composer in the Harvard Square Library list of Notable UU Composers. Her choral works have been performed by Unitarian Universalist churches, UCC and congregational churches in dozens of states across the country.
A professional vocalist, Kendrick has performed with light opera companies and has won several awards in NATS Competitions. Voice teachers include Shigemi Matsumoto, Don St. Jean and Karyl Ryczek. She also performed with a contemporary folk band, Anne’s Cordial.
Kendrick received a B.M. in Vocal Performance from Rhode Island College and an M.M. in Composition with Distinction from the Longy School of Music, where she studied with composer John Howell Morrison.
