Alistair Lam is a devoted vocal musician and choir member with more than a decade of experience. Since a young age, he has had opportunities to perform as a soloist and choir member at various prestigious venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the MuTh (concert hall of the Vienna Boys' Choir), the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Rudolfinum in Prague.
Born in Hong Kong in 2004, Alistair began his vocal training at St. Paul’s Co-Educational College Primary School (SPCCPS), a school with leading musical education. SPCCPS’ concert choir was awarded 1st Place with Outstanding Success at the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival 2017 in Vienna.
As a member of SPCCPS’ Junior, Intermediate and Senior Choirs between 2011-17, Alistair participated in the 65th-69th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival (HKSMF), winning the Hong Kong Island Region Championship for 3 years as well as the Best Primary School Choir for 2 years.
In 2017-18, Alistair continued his vocal training at St. Paul’s Co-educational College (SPCC), where he represented the school as one of soloists, during the world premiere of the piece No Place in Our World by Warren Lee at the 70th HKSMF, where his choir was named champion of the English Treble Choir of the Year.
After SPCC, Alistair joined Hong Kong International School (HKIS) where he served as section leader of the Boys Chamber Choir in 2018-19. He also sung descants and solos in performances for media events like the World Peace Day and CNN My Freedom Day. He was awarded the Outstanding Choral Achievement Award by HKIS at graduation. Middle School Choir Director, Laura Izaguirre de Pihowich, described him as “an inspiration to the greater body of singers” at the school.
Alistair was one of six representatives at the 22-year-old Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS) Asian Middle School Honor Boys' Choir Festival in 2019. He gave a solo performance during the piece Salaam Aleikum by Laura Farnell, at the Gala Concert held at Balgandharva Rangmandir in Mumbai, India.
A highlight of his vocal journey came in June 2019, when Alistair was chosen by distinguished composer Alberto Grau to perform as a soloist, accompanied by an orchestra, at Carnegie Hall, for his two pieces, El San Pedro de mi Tierra in Cinco Canciones Infantiles and Acto del Mar in Opereta Ecológica, at the “¡Buena Onda! Music from South America” concert conducted by internationally renowned choral conductor María Guinand.
At the Doris Lenz Festival for High School Singers of the National Association of Teachers of Singing New Jersey (NJNATS) in November 2019, Alistair was awarded runner-up in the Treble Lower Division.
Alistair is currently furthering his vocal studies with Ms. Laura Heimes and Dr. Christopher Sierra at The Lawrenceville School (TLS). His repertoires include Ombra Mai Fu from Serse and Qui d’amor from Ariodante by Handel. He is only male soprano in Lawrentians, TLS’ advanced choir. Alistair has passed Grade 8 Vocal Exam of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) with distinction.
