Roger Wang, 17, is a senior at Lambert High School in Suwanee, GA and has been training in classical voice since he was 10 years old. He was a wide array of achievements in vocal competitions, including but not limited to: double-finalist in classical and musical theater along with 3rd place in musical theater at the 2024 CS Music Vocal Competition, finalist in the 2024 Schmidt Vocal Competition regional, 1st place and a monetary reward from the 2021 Florida Keys International Music Competition, Judges Distinction Awards and 1st place in the 2020 American Protégé International Vocal Competition, and 2nd place winner in the 2019 Hal Leonard Vocal Competition
In 2020, Roger was selected by Broadway celebrity Corey Cott as one of the four grand prize winners in the CYT National Talent Thon, earning him the opportunity for a virtual meet with director Jon Chu. Roger was an official national anthem singer for professional sports teams, including the Atlanta Gladiators (hockey) and the Gwinett Stripers (Baseball).
Roger attends Lambert High School, which is ranked by US News as the 9th best high school in GA – it is highly competitive in academics and arts, and has a large student population of almost 3,000 students. Along with upkeeping his academics, Roger is heavily involved in his school’s chorus and musical theater programs. He is a section leader of the Lambert High School Men’s Chorus – often being appointed by his director to lead rehearsals for men’s chorus, chamber chorus, and school musical theater productions – and has been a lead role in five Acting Troupe of Lambert productions.
Roger is proud to have been a participant in the Georgia All-State Chorus for four straight years, earning a perfect score twice. In his sophomore year, he auditioned for the Georgia All-State Reading Chorus, a variant of All-State Chorus focused on sight-singing excellency, and became the first-ever Lambert High School student to be accepted.
This was not the only time Roger claimed a first in his school: in 2023, he became the first Lambert student to win 1st place at the Georgia High School Association Literary Boys Solo 7A State Championship — in 2024, he became the first Lambert student to win 1st at the state championships two times in a row.
In the summer of 2023, Roger passed the six-month audition process for the Georgia Governor's Honors Program, becoming Lambert’s first sophomore to be accepted as a vocal major — only 0.25% of the applying students were selected
Roger loves being on stage in musical theater productions. He was elected as the State Representative of the Acting Troupe of Lambert two years in a row, and has been a lead or main cast member in many shows, including The Lion King Jr., Matilda Jr., Amélie, Beauty and Beast Jr., Into the Woods Jr., Guys and Dolls, Tuck Everlasting, The Secret Garden, The Fantasticks, and the Mystery of Edwin Drood. In 2023, he played Jesse Tuck in Tuck Everlasting, which won 1st place at the Georgia High School Association One Act Play 7A State Championships. In his junior year, he was selected as a Best Leading Actor Honorable Mention in the ArtsBridge Georgia Shuler Awards for his role as John Jasper in The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
Alongside his artistic pursuits, Roger maintains a strong academic record.
He takes several of the most advanced courses that his high school can offer, necessitating a dual enrollment with Georgia Tech to continue his studies in math. He maintains a 4.22 GPA, scored six 5’s out of the seven AP exams he has taken, scored a 1580 on the SAT, and is a national merit semifinalist expected to be a finalist in the spring.
Roger has a wide range of interests: he enjoys ice hockey, and in a past season, his travel team brought home three Southern Youth Travel Hockey League championships. Other hobbies he has are CAD/3D printing and calisthenics. He also plays piano and trumpet — he was a participant in his school bands for five years and was selected for the Georgia All-State Band in 2019 before switching his focus to singing and musical theater.
