  • 2021 she won the first prize in her category in International Music competition Musica Goritiensis in Gorizia, Italy.
  • She was also one of the finalists on International singing competition Novo mesto in spring 2022, and a semifinalist in Stignani competition in Imola in autumn 2022.
  • She was a semi-finalist of Oper Im Berg competition Grandi Voci in February 2023.
  • She won the 3rd prize in international singing competition Maria Labia in Malcesine (Lago di Garda), Italy.
  • She was chosen and also given "Elizabeth Luxton Memorial Scholarship" for Berlin Opera Academy for summer 2021. She sung the role of Nella in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and studied a role of Lauretta.. She studied with renowned singers and vocal coaches: Dominic Barberi, David Wakeham, Andres Moreno Garcia, Stefania Dovhan and others.

Bio

Soprano Gaja Sorč succesfully finished the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in class of prof. Asst. Barbara Jernejčič Fürst 2018. She also trained with Charlotte Lehmann, Martina Zadro, Ellen Rissinger, David Boothroyd and Alenka Slokar Bajc.

She earned her master's degree in June 2018 and debuted in September in the role of the the Hops Princess in the opera of the same name by Radovan Gobec in Žalec, under the baton of Simon Dvoršak and Iztok Kocen and directed by Jaša Koceli.

In the framework of Youth to youth programme, together with pianist Mojca Lavrenčič, she performed a concert at the Slovenian Philharmonic.

In April 2019 she was a soloist in a ceremonial concert to mark the 75th anniversary of the Ljubljana Partisan Choir in the Gallus Hall of Cankarjev dom. The concert was held under the baton of conductor Iztok Kocen, partisans who connected with PAZ Vinko Vodopivec, joined by a Brass orchestra Krško under the baton of Gašper Salobir.

In February 2020 she originated the role of Julija in eponymus named opera by Slovenian composer Aleš Makovac, which continues to perform around Slovenia.

She continued working with Ljubljana Partisan Choir as a soloist in cantata Hej, Partizan! by Radovan Gobec, which was transcribed by composer and conductor Iztok Kocen around Slovenia.

In October 2021 she sang the roles of Minka and Tina in new slovenian opera Hiša Usmiljenja (The House of Mercy) by slovenian composer Tomaž Svete, under production of SKGG (Slovenian chamber music theatre).

With her project ArsFemina she and her colleagues made a few successful concerts around Slovenia and continue with it to this day.

In November 2021 she sang a concert in Teatro Communale Giuseppe Verdi in Gorizia, together with baritone Christian Federici and Orchestra di San Marco under baton of maestro Marco Feruglio.

In May 2023 she sang the role of Sandrina in Mozart’s opera La Finta Giardiniera (The False Gardener) under the baton of prof. Alenka Slokar Bajc.

In September 2023 she sang the role of Petra in musical The Little Night Music by Stephen Sondheim, in co-organisation of SKGG and Cankarjev dom.

In December 2023, together with the pianist Vita Kovše, she launched a project called New view of Slovenian art songs by the young Slovenian composer Samo Vovk, and the songs were also professionally recorded and they published them and thus present them to the general public. In January 2024 she was a part of gala concert titled Homage to Maria Callas in the Kazinski Hall in SNT Maribor.

In May 2024, she sang the main role of Nika in a new Slovenian opera Kit na plaži (Whale on the beach) by Iztok Kocen, based on the libretto by Jakob Barbo and the novel of the same name by Vinko Möderndorfer, who participated in the project as a director in May 2024. The opera deals with the theme of difference and its acceptance, and it has received many extremely positive reviews.

In June, she participated in the Gala concert celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Partisan Choir in the Gallus Hall of Cankarjev dom, and also in June, as part of the Imago Sloveniae festival, she participated as a soloist at the Opening Ceremony of the 36th International Imago Sloveniae Festival and Summer in Old Ljubljana, where she the SNT Maribor orchestra sang the newly orchestrated solos of Aleksandra Naumovski Potisk and Puccini's Mimi in the Slovenian Philharmonic.

In October, she participated in the National Celebration of Reformation Day in Cankarjev dom, which was broadcast and recorded by RTV Slovenia. She sang Bohorič's Jutranja pesem, which was skillfully arranged by Leon Firšt.

In November, she reprised the role of Sandrina in the opera La finta gardiniera in Semič and in January in Sežana, and a few days later with a well-coordinated team, reprised the opera Kit na plaži (Whale on the beach) in KCJT Novo mesto, and in six days performed 12 very successful performances.
