Ida Antola is a Finnish award-winning opera singer living in Europe. Currently she's based in Amsterdam but has previously studied and lived in Berlin and in France. Ida speaks fluent Finnish, English, German and French.
Besides being a soloist, Ida is also a trained pianist, choir conductor and a published composer. Her most recent roles include the role of the Bride in Kaija Saariaho’s latest opera Innocence, roles of the full lyric soprano fach such as Micaëla (Bizet/Carmen) and Donna Elvira (Mozart/Don Giovanni) and the title roles of Suor Angelica (Puccini) and Adina (Rossini). Ida has frequently sung principal roles at the Finnish National Opera such as Pamina (Magic Flute, 2017), Christine (The Phantom of the Opera, 2018 & 2021), The Bride (Saariaho/Innocence, 2022), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro, 2020) and Crobyle in Massenet’s Opera Thaïs (2019). In 2022 she made her international debut as Écho (Strauss/Ariadne auf Naxos) at Opéra de Limoges and in 2021 she covered the role of the Bride at Festival d'Aix-en-Provence.
In summer 2022 Ida was awarded the Bel Canto Prize, Audience Award and the Inge Borkh scholarship at the Rossini in Wildbad Festival. She has been a finalist in many prestigious international competitions like the ARD competition in Munich (2021), the Hugo Wolf competition in Stuttgart (2018) and the Schubert competition in Dortmund (2018). In Finland Ida has been awarded 1st prizes at Lappeenranta Voice Competition (2023) and Kangasniemi Competition (2017).
Besides opera Ida also a passionate Lieder and concert singer, having performed with orchestras such as Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra, Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, Lappeenranta City Orchestra, Vaasa City Orchestra, Jyväskylä City Orchestra and Finnish Baroque Orchestra among others. She's also a gifted performer of contemporary music: in spring 2024 she will perform Messiaen's Poèmes pour Mi with Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, and recently she has also sung and conducted Schönberg's monodrama "Pierrot Lunaire" at the Kaivos Festival in Outokumpu, Finland and in Balder Hall in Helsinki.
In season 2023-2024 Ida is one of the laureates at the Lied Academy d'Orsay-Royaumont, giving performances at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and Royaumont Abbey. She has given recitals in MozartFest Würzburg, Crescendo Festival Berlin, Ploiesti Philharmonic and Bucharest Atheneum. She won 2nd prize at the International Paula Salomon Lindberg Competition in Berlin in 2017 with pianist Daria Tudor. Alba Records published her debut album "The truth about love" in March 2023.
