Bio

Soprano Vesemir Johnson (he/him) has been performing professionally as a solo and chamber vocalist and saxophonist since 2016. He recently placed among the top 21 university level singers nationally as a 2023 CS Music Competition Semi-Finalist. This summer, Ves covered the role of Donna Anna as an Artist Fellow at Mozart in the Knobs (New Albany, IN). In 2023, he performed Queen of the Night and Second Spirit in The Magic Flute with Butler Opera Theatre and sang in the world premiere of Augusta Read Thomas’ Toward a Secret Sky with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. A student of Dana Zenobi, he is currently preparing Richard Strauss’ Brentano Lieder for the Butler University Concerto Competition and plans to give a senior recital in the fall of 2023. Ves also plans to join a concert tour with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir and Butler University Choirs in May of 2024. Ves is a senior Music Education major at Butler University who has also served as the drum major and head of operations for Butler Athletic Bands, and will complete two student-teacher internships in spring 2024. He is expected to graduate in 2024 with Indiana State Teacher’s licensure to teach choral, instrumental, and general music for grades K-12. Ves plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Opera Performance in the fall of 2024.
