Bio

Gena Chambers, mezzo-soprano, is a Graduate of Fresno State University with a BA and MA in Vocal Performance. She transferred to State from Fresno City College, where she had principal roles in many productions of the Fresno City Opera Workshop, including The Mikado (2016) as Katisha, The Beggar's Opera (2017) as Ms. Peachum, Patience (2018) as Lady Jane, and The Merry Wives of Winsor (2022) as Meg Page. During her undergrad at Fresno State, she was part of the world premiere recording of the State of Jefferson (2019) by Dr. Kenneth D. Froelich, and she had her first full opera role with orchestra as the Witch in the Spring 2022 production of Hansel & Gretel. During graduate school, she took on the greater challenge of directing a full production of Amahl and the Night Visitors (Fall 2024) while also singing the role of Octavian from Srauss' Der Rozenkavaler in the Finalie Trio scene as part of the Fresno State Opera Scenes Program. She performed her graduate recital in the spring of 2024 (March 12, 2024). In her final production with the Fresno State Opera, Gena sang the title role of Ceaser in a large excerpt from G.F. Handel's Giulio Cesare.
