American countertenor Joshua Garvey has been praised for his sensitive interpretations and a clear, sweet tone. He performs regularly as a soloist and ensemble singer throughout Germany and the EU. Highlights include the alto solos in Johann Georg Künstel’s Markuspassion with Ensemble cum passione in the passion’s first performance in Künstel’s native Coburg since 1720, performances with Ensemble 1684 at the Aschaffenburger Bachtage, and the Boston premier of John Harbison’s The Cross of Snow for countertenor and viols, which he performed with a grant from the Viola da Gamba Society - NE in partnership with various LGBTQ advocacy groups. He has also performed with Bach Consort Leipzig, Collegium Vocale Leipzig, Dresdner Kammerchor, Ensemble Neue Kammer, Le Concert Lorrain, Ensemble Lachrymae, Boston Camerata, and Opera Vivente. He completed his Master’s in Early Music at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA, and received vocal training from Aaron Sheehan, Flavio Ferri-Benedetti, and Janet Williams.
