Bio

Mezzo-soprano Marja Kari has performed wide range of music from baroque to modern and contemporary music. She was acclaimed for "a singing quality to her voice, with strong expression needed by her role Venerina" in the world premiere of Paolo Rosato's opera Lars Cleen - Lo Straniero.

Marja is especially interested in Richard Wagner's music and has performed several Wagnerian roles both on stage and in a concert setting. In July 2019 Marja debuted as Rossweisse with Manhattan Opera Studio in New York, also covering Fricka. In August 2019 she performed Santuzza with Oopperastudio Aino in Helsinki. Her other roles include a.o. Komponist in Ariadne auf Naxos and Adelaide in Arabella by R. Strauss, Wellgunde in Die Rheingold, Waltraute in Die Walküre and 3. Blumenmädchen in Parsifal by R. Wagner. She has performed as an orchestra soloist with Helsinginkatu Philharmonic and Töölö Brass.

Marja Kari has graduated from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in 2015 and done exchange studies at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. She has previously graduated from Conservatory of Helsinki as a pianist.
