Taiza Savage, soprano, is a young aspiring artist who has a deep love for musical theater and classical singing. She is currently a Junior at Utah Tech University and will graduate in Spring 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies. Taiza was on scholarship at Utah Tech for Vocal Performance until Spring 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic happened. She returned home during that time and switched majors to accommodate online learning and recover from an accident that crushed her spine. During her recovery, she met her husband and shortly after became a mother to her son who was born prematurely at 1 pound 3 ounces due to a rare form of preeclampsia called HELLP syndrome that nearly claimed both their lives. Taiza spent months recovering and spent all her time in the NICU with her son. His miraculous survival and birth pushed Taiza to sing again despite all the obstacles that made it seem impossible. Taiza and her husband's son Maverick finally came home after 110 days in the NICU. He is the light of their life. Taiza is grateful for music because it carried and saved her during such a difficult time in her life. She is thrilled, after a long time, to be back singing, performing, and perfecting her craft, doing what she loves most. She is now seeking to find a school where she can obtain an additional bachelor's degree in Vocal performance to further her training.
Taiza loves to perform in classical vocal style. She has been seen in several opera scenes and showcases over the years including Pitti-Sing in The Mikado, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Ensemble in Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Ensemble in Die Fledermaus.
Taiza also loves performing in musical theater vocal style. Her favorite musical theater roles she has performed include Marian Paroo in Music Man, Amalia Blash in She Loves Me, Tzeitel in Fiddler on the Roof, and Ensemble in The Drowsy Chaperone.
Taiza was recently seen in a musical theater scene showcase as Sister Robert Anne from Nunsense and Lucy from Jekyll and Hyde. She is thrilled to be performing in another scene showcase this summer as Christine Daae performing "All I Ask of You" from The Phantom of the Opera and in the Ensemble for "You Will Be Found" from Dear Evan Hansen and "You’ll Be Back" from Hamilton.
Taiza was a member of the Debra Bonner Unity Gospel Choir and has had the privilege of performing in the Tabernacle at Temple Square of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah and at the Utah State Capitol. She is also a member of the International Thespian Society and received the National Choral Award her senior year of high school. She has trained with Jeffrey Skouson, Debra Bonner, Emily Workman, Valerine Nelson, and Dylan F. Thomas.
Some of her other aspirations include: tap dance, jazz, swimming, teaching swim classes, singing in church, pageantry, and providing quality time towards community service.
Taiza currently lives in Salem, Utah where she is healthy, strong, and happily supported to pursue her dreams. She looks forward to auditioning, training, and seeking opportunities to sing and perform.
