Bailey Bovenschen, mezzo-soprano, is a passionate vocalist with a love for all types of music theatre. She recently graduated from Oklahoma City University with a BM in Musical Theatre and Vocal Performance, studying under Professor Larry Keller and Charles Koslowske. Currently, she is pursuing a master's in Vocal Performance at Oklahoma State University, studying under Professor April Golliver-Mohiuddin and taking coachings with Professor Megan Barth Argo.
Bailey recently presented her master's thesis in the form of a Lecture Recital: "How I Got Into His Pantsrole: A Guide to Performing the Opera Trouser Role." She discussed the struggles many female-identifying performers face when performing a male-identifying character, providing tools to help vocalists build these characters. This lecture recital also featured "The Trouser Role Database," listing every castrato, boy soprano, and pants role that has existed.
She hopes this database will serve as a tool for seasoned performers, beginners, or those curious about pants roles, and allow them to discover these characters along with the types of masculinity they portray.
