Aarti Sabharwal is a senior at Maret School in Washington, DC who will be attending the University of Pennsylvania next year. She began her music career with piano lessons at the age of 7 and singing lessons at the age of 8. She has performed with the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center in various operas from December 2016 to December 2019, as well as with The Fairfax Symphony. In 2022, Aarti was a semi-finalist in the CS Music High School Competition in Chicago and was a Finalist and Most Broadway Bound in the Schmidt Vocal Competition. At school, Aarti is a leader of the acapella group, Gracenotes, and she participates in musical theater, with some of her favorite past roles being Rosie in Mamma Mia, Sandy in Grease, and Erzulie in Once on this Island. Aarti has been teaching piano and singing lessons to children and adults for the past 4 years, and truly loves spreading the joy of music to others. In addition, Aarti has been studying Indian classical music which has complimented her classical Western studies and has allowed her to connect with her heritage. She participated in the WNO Opera Institute during the summer of 2022, in which she performed at the Kennedy Center three times and spent three weeks intensively building opera skills. Aarti plans to continue studying voice at the collegiate level.
