Bio

Makenzie Couch is a homeschooled 18-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona. She has taken private voice lessons with Rachel Stoddard for four years and private acting lessons with Kelli James (original Broadway cast of Les Miserables) for over a year. She has competed at the Valley of the Sun NATS Vocal Competition six times since 2016 - placing 1st in Classical Voice two years in a row, as well as placing 2nd twice, 3rd, and receiving an honorable mention in Musical Theatre Voice. She was recognized as the “Most Promising High School Classical Singer” at NATS in 2019. She also placed 1st in the West Valley Chorale Young Singer Competition.

Makenzie has been in over a dozen shows with Scottsdale Musical Theater Company, Dream City Church, and CYT Phoenix. Some of her favorite credits include performing with SMTC in Thoroughly Modern Millie, guest-starring Dawnn Lewis, and A Christmas Carol, guest-starring Charles Shaughnessy. Other favorite credits include Rafiki in The Lion King Jr. (National Youth Arts Award Nomination) and Sponge in James And The Giant Peach with CYT. Makenzie took 22 classes during her time at CYT Phoenix - training in voice, acting, and different styles of dance. She has also trained at Paradise Valley Community College for Ballet and Conservatory Of Dance for Jazz and Tap. She has had masterclasses with composer Andrew Lippa, Hamilton dance captain Voltaire Wade Greene, actor Nic Rouleau, and actress Christy Altomare.

One of Makenzie’s favorite opportunities was getting to sing “Popular” as a duet with Kristin Chenoweth at the 24th Annual Celebrity Fight Night. She also attended NYU Steinhardt’s Summer Study in Music Theatre in 2018 and ArtsBridge’s Summer Program in 2019. She is so grateful for all of the experiences that she has had over the years and everything that she has learned. Makenzie is looking forward to auditioning for schools in the fall and furthering her pursuit for a career in the performing arts.
