DEBORAH STERNBERG, described by critics as a “spine-tingling soprano” (Ben Demers, DC Theatre Scene), is praised for her flexibility, stage presence, and radiance of tone. Ms. Sternberg is a winner of the 2007 state competitions of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and has been featured as a soloist on recordings of the Cathedral Choral Society, Cantate Chamber Singers, and the St. Catherine of Siena Choir. She is currently a full-time artist with both The Washington Master Chorale and The Washington Chorus.
A champion of new music, Ms. Sternberg sang Gabriel Thibaudeau’s original score to the 1923 silent film The Hunchback of Notre Dâme, composed for soprano, theatre organ, and violin, at the American Film Institute in Maryland in 2013, and has recently premiered Eric Kitchen’s song cycle Roses at the Music Series at Penn Alps.
She is a full-time singer with the professional Octet at St. Catherine of Siena (Great Falls, VA), the Cantor Soloist at Congregation Or Chadash (Damascus, Md), and a Core Musician with the Washington Master Chorale. She teaches out of her vocal studio in Germantown, Md, and also is on staff as voice teacher for The Washington Chorus.
Her first CD, Birds of Love and Prey, has just been released on the NAXOS label in February, 2020. The CD holds three new song cycles for soprano and piano, by composers Gabriel Thibaudeau, Andrew E. Simpson, and Eric Kitchen, and can be purchased on Amazon, iTunes, etc., or directly from her square store through a link on her homepage, https://singingdeb.com/
