Ana Paola Vergara is a lyric soprano originally from Mexico City. She received her bachelor’s degree at West Virginia University in vocal performance, under Robert Chafin. As an undergraduate student she participated in serval Masterclasses with singers including Lisette Oropesa, James Valenti, Matthew Rose, Allan Glassman, and Michael Chioldi.
She has participated in several opera workshops where she has done scene studies in the roles of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Rossina in Il Barbiere di Seviglia, Nerone in L’incronazione di Poppea, Elektra in Idomeneo, Violetta in La Traviata and Blanche in Dialogue of the Carmelites. Her operatic roles include The Owl and The Shepherd in Ravel’s opera L'enfant et les sortilèges, and Suor Osmina in Puccini’s opera Suor Angelica. She has also served as an ensemble member in all the operas she has performed in.
Ana Paola has both won and placed in District and Regional NATS as well as being a semi-finalist in the Classical Singer competition.
Ana Paola has participated in Astoria Music Festival in Oregon and La Musica Lirica Summer Festival in Italy. These have allowed her to make her American and European debuts. This summer she will return to her home country to sing the lead role of Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème in ISOFOM (International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia).
Ana Paola hopes to share her Mexican culture with the world through music as an opera singer. When she is not singing, she spends her time practicing foreign languages, writing poetry, visiting museums and doing research to learn about new cultures. Most recently she has been fascinated with Cuba and has begun to perform pieces from Cuban Zarzuelas.
