Bio

Teressa Foss, soprano, has been praised as “vivacious”, “scene-stealing”, and “possessed of a laser-focused whiz-bang of a soprano voice… her effortless flights above the staff were as admirable as they were totally unexpected” (Berta/Il barbiere di Siviglia/Opera San Jose, OperaToday.com).

With her wide vocal and theatrical range, she has sung both soprano and mezzo roles for Opera San Jose: Berta (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro), Suzy (La Rondine), Nurse/Ghost/Eunice Hubbell cover (A Streetcar Named Desire); soprano and mezzo chorus for Opera San Jose: Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Carmen, Tosca, Die Zauberflöte; soprano and mezzo roles for Opera San Jose’s noted Outreach Program: Gretel/Sandman/Dew Fairy (Hansel and Gretel), Mother/Granny (Little Red Riding Hood), soprano soloist in the lecture-demonstration “What Is Opera”. Opera roles performed at other companies and producing groups include the title roles of Lucia di Lammermoor, Madama Butterfly, and Norma, Micaela (Carmen), Nedda (I pagliacci), Lola (Cavalleria rusticana), Genovieffa (Suor Angelica), and Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte). Choral work includes Opera San Jose, Livermore Valley Opera, and Festival Opera Walnut Creek.

A lengthy list of professional musical roles at regional theatres across the USA includes: Franca Naccarelli & Signora Naccarelli in several productions of The Light in the Piazza, Sharon Graham in four mountings of Terrence McNally’s Master Class, Lilli Vanessi (Kiss Me Kate), Christine Daae (Phantom), Rebecca Hershkowitz and Anna/Gertrude in productions of Rags, the Widow (Zorba), Eliza Doolittle (My Fair Lady), and the title role in Oh, Kay!.

Theatre companies performed at include Sacramento Theatre Company, Theatreworks Silicon Valley, Lyric Theatre of San Jose, 42nd Street Moon, Indra’s Net, Lambs Players, Willows Theatre, Phoenix Theatre (AZ), Boston Court, Fullerton Civic Light Opera, Cabrillo Stage, the Hollywood Bowl, West Coast Jewish Theatre, GeVa Theatre (NY), PCPA Theatrefest, Reprise! Los Angeles, Berkeley Repertory, Odyssey Theatre, Fountain Theatre, Colony Theatre, and Ensemble Theater Santa Barbara. She has been nominated for theatre acting awards by Theatre Bay Area, Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle, AriZoni Theatre Awards, BroadwayWorld.com and Backstage West.

In concert, Ms. Foss has been a repeat soprano soloist for Bay Area choral and orchestral group Viva La Musica, singing Haydn’s Missa in Angustiis, Rutter’s Magnificat, the Hayes and Ruggieri Glorias, Beethoven’s Fantasia in C-minor, Ola Gieilo’s “Night of the Soul” works, and the West Coast premiere of Dan Forrest’s “Requiem for the Living”. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Silicon Valley Gay Men’s Chorus, Napa’s Jarvis Institute, Sonoma’s Valley of the Moon Chamber Ensemble, and several of Goat Hall Production’s Fresh Voices festivals.

Also an on-camera artist, her acting credits in independent film include “Bottles” (Best Actress, Eerie Film Festival), “Pintauro Road”, “Nominated – The Movie”, and “Life Without”. Her films have screened in festivals across the U.S. and overseas, garnering multiple awards and nominations. She has performed principal roles and voiceover in national commercials for AT&T, Xfinity and Healthy Choice.
