Scott Eric Johnson is a student at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, studying under Dr. Grant Knox. He is pursuing a double major in Vocal Performance (BM) and Religion (BA).
Scott spent the summer of 2022 with the Ohio Light Opera, where he appeared as Captain Arthur in "The Mock Marriage" by Franz Lehár, in addition to ensemble roles in four other productions including "The Student Prince" (Student/Count Arnheim) and "The Pirates of Penzance" (Pirate).
Scott is originally from Decatur, GA. In high school, he played a variety of roles including the Baker (Into the Woods), Daniel (Once on this Island), and the Eric (The Little Mermaid). In high school and now in college, Scott sings regularly in competitions including the NATS Student Auditions (in which he reached the national semifinals in his final year of high school and first two years of college), the Classical Singer Competition, and the Schmidt Vocal Competition.
Scott is currently a senior at Furman University in Greenville, SC, where he studies under Dr. Grant Knox. Scott worked closely with Dr. Hugh Ferguson Floyd, former conductor of Furman's Chamber Choir and Furman Singers, before his spring 2022 retirement. Brent Funderburk is Scott's vocal coach. Scott most recently appeared as Don Ottavio in Furman Lyric Theater's Spring 2022 production of "Don Giovanni." Scott also appeared in Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods" as Cinderella's Prince/The Wolf (Spring 2021) and in a featured ensemble role in a cancelled Spring 2020 production of Jules Massenet's "Cendrillon."
Scott is active on campus, and values the liberal arts education Furman provides alongside the development of his musical excellence. Scott intends to pursue a career in music performance.
