Bio

Dr. Lisa Sain Odom is an opera and musical theatre singer and teacher and stage/film actor and singer. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, as well as B.M. and M.M. degrees, in Vocal Performance. Dr. Odom teaches both classical and commercial styles of singing and has a special love for opera and musical theatre. She has taught students from ages 5 – 77 and is currently a Professor of Voice and Musical Theatre at Clemson University. She also has an online private teaching studio.

In 2007 Dr. Odom was selected and participated in the prestigious National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Intern program. She is certified in Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method and was the 2020 winner of the NATS Vocal Pedagogy Award. She has given master classes and workshops for the South Eastern Theatre Conference, Mid-Atlantic Region NATS, and in universities and voice studios throughout the Southeast.

As a performer, Dr. Odom is equally comfortable in the worlds of opera, theatre and film and has performed a wide variety of roles and concert solos in American and Europe, including roles such as Julie Jordan (Carousel); the Baker’s Wife (Into the Woods); Papagena (Die Zauberflote); and Musetta (La Boheme); and concert solos in the Mozart Missa Brevis, Kurt Weill’s Seven Deadly Sins; Ophelia’s aria from Thomas’ opera Hamlet; and a variety of Pops concerts. She has appeared in commercials, industrials, and independent films shown throughout the US and Europe, including a recent film accepted into the Cannes Short Film Festival. Dr. Odom co-founded and performs with the soprano trio, “The Blonde, the Brunette and the Redhead,” currently singing opera, musical theatre, and jazz in concerts throughout the Southeast.

Dr. Odom is a vocal coach and musical director who has worked on shows including Rent; Guys and Dolls; She Loves Me; and Bright Star and has taught students now working in universities, and in film, regional theatre, cruises, Disney, and on Broadway. In addition to her work at Clemson, she has taught on the faculties of North Greenville University and Western Carolina University.
