When it comes to 1st Place Charleston International Music Competition Winner Carmen Vizin-Esquivel, there is never a drop of doubt in the tasteful presentation of music she leads with. The young Mezzo-Soprano is currently known for her dark, velvety tones in the music of composers such as [but not limited to] Händel, Tchaikovsky and Mozart with a hint of Rossini.
Carmen's 2020/21 season began with her debut with the DePaul Opera Theatre in a production of Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro" in March, under the direction of director Harry Silverstein. This shortly followed a role study of Britten's character Emmie in his "Albert Herring" with Chicago Summer Opera.* Further engagements include the role of Hänsel in a spin-off production of Humperdinck's "Hänsel und Gretel", Anima in Hildegard Von Bingen's "Ordo Virtutum" with the DePaul Chamber Choir, a role study of Dido from Purcell's "Dido & Aeneas" with the DePaul Choirs & the Vizin Productions Starr Editing virtual concert "Rhein", sponsored by the Wagner Society of America. Ms. Vizin-Esquivel is currently preparing the role of Bradamante for Chicago Summer Opera's 2021 production of Händel's "Alcina".
Carmen is the 1st Place Winner of the Charleston International Music 2020 Fall Competition and 2nd Place holder in the semifinal round of Music International Grand Prix Music Competition.
