Sophia Silvers, a coloratura soprano from Fair Oaks, California, holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from CSU Sacramento. Before her studies at Sacramento State, Sophia pursued her musical education at American River College.
Sophia recently made her operatic principal debut as Ida in Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus with the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera (SP&O), directed by Giselle Ty and conducted by Andrew Altenbach. Previous engagements with the SP&O include the chorus in Puccini's La Bohème and sharing the stage with Andrea Bocelli.
Additional operatic roles include Königin der Nacht in Mozart’s Die Zauberflӧte, La Fée in Viardot’s Cendrillon, and Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. Notable solo performances include the soprano in Handel’s Messiah and a featured artist in the Festival of New American Music’s GALA Concert.
Sophia is delighted to participate in young artist programs OperaWorks and Classic Lyric Arts Berkshires this upcoming summer. Last summer, she participated in and was the administrative executive for Operation Opera, which centered around contemporary opera and art song.
Sophia has been granted awards from the Kristina Townsend, Robert S. Dinsmore, and Lucy Becker competitions this past year and is a CS Music Certified Singer, participating in the competition and convention last spring in San Francisco.
Sophia has sung with various local choirs and is currently with Camerata California. Beyond her academic and performance pursuits, Sophia is a voice, piano, and ukulele instructor at Music Lab in Granite Bay, Rocklin, and privately throughout Sacramento.
