Bio

Gimena María Sánchez Rivera was born in San José, Costa Rica, in June 2002. She has studied classical voice for nine years approximately; from 2013 to 2019 with Costa Rican soprano Mónica López Umaña, and from 2019 until 2021 with tenor Ernesto Rodríguez Montero and soprano Sofía Corrales Lara. She's a graduate of the University of Costa Rica's (UCR) pre-college program, and an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma recipient.

Gimena had the privilege to represent Costa Rica in the "Central American Cultural Gala" at the "Rubén Darío National Theatre" in Managua, Nicaragua, in 2015. The soprano then became a member of the National Lyric Company Choir conducted by soprano Guadalupe González Kreysa from 2015 until 2016.

The soprano has performed in classes with the soprano Guadalupe González Kreysa, Coach Douglas Sumi from Boston University, amongst others. Gimena participated in Boston University's Tanglewood Institute 2019 Young Artist Vocal Program under the direction of mezzo-soprano Penelope Bitzas. In this program, she had the opportunity to perform Carmina Burana with the YAVP choir at the Koussevitzky Shed and in Seiji Ozawa Hall, under the direction of Dr. Katie Woolf. Gimena also took part in Eastman School of Music's Summer Classical Studies program in 2020 in Teresa Ringholz's studio.

This fall the soprano will start her undergraduate studies at The Juilliard School as a member of Cynthia Hoffmann's studio.
