Bio

Jonathan Shinn has extensive experience with music, both as a performer and teacher. He has performed in a variety of ensemble and solo settings. At the collegiate level, he has performed major roles with the Butler Opera Theatre. As a choral musician, he has been a part of Butler's University Choir, Chamber singers, and Chorale. He also has served as the tenor section leader of Northminster Presbyterian Church since fall of 2021. In this role, he has performed major works such as Haydn's Requiem in C minor, Handel's Messiah, and Bach Cantatas.

Jonathan thrives in a competition environment, he views competitions as a challenge for him to better himself and learn as much as he can from his peers and judges/professors.

Currently, Jonathan is studying abroad in Milan, Italy. Here he is focusing on studying opera with Patrizia Zanardi, Anna Frey, and Silva Constanzo. He will be performing the role of Agenore in Mozart's "Il re pastore."

Jonathan enjoys studying a diverse amount of repertoire ranging from Florence B. Price to Franz Schubert to Francesco Paolo Tosti. It is important to him that multiple genres and styles of music are a part of his repertoire as Jonathan views all music as having value.

When he is not teaching, performing, or working, Jonathan enjoys reading, baking, and spending time with friends and family. He also loves to stay active when he is not making music.
