Bio

Margaret King, soprano, recently portrayed the role of Kim McAfee in Saint John’s High School Shrewsbury, MA production of Bye, Bye Birdie. She also portrayed Southern Lady in the musical Lucky Stiff at Wachusett Regional High School, Holden, MA. She has been an ensemble member in the musicals All Shook Up and Once Upon a Mattress and was a nun in The Sound of Music. Maggie has been a Dance Captain and member of several dance troupes, and her dance drama ensemble work portrays characters such as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, and Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. As a young singer, Maggie sang with the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Children's Choir performing such works as Puccini's Suor Angelica and La Boheme, Mahler's Symphony #3, Duruflé's Requiem, and Burton's The Lost Words at Symphony Hall and Tanglewood. She has also performed several times for the Holiday Pops concerts with Keith Lockhart and The Boston Pops Orchestra. In 2023, Maggie attended the Boston Conservatory Summer Vocal-Choral Intensive. In 2024, Maggie attended the six-week Pre-College Music program at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA where she performed in staged opera scenes including “Ah perdona al primo affetto” from La Clemenza di Tito by Mozart and “Sull’aria” from The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart. She has also competed at the All-Ireland Irish Dance Championships in Killarney, Ireland, and she placed at the North American National Irish Dance Championships in Montreal, Canada. Maggie was a member of The New England Conservatory Youth Chorale for the 2023-2024 season. She is a four-year member of Wachusett Singers, a select choir at Wachusett Regional High School, and serves as President of the ensemble. She continues representing her high school in the Central MA Senior District Festival Chorus and Massachusetts All-State Chorus. In 2024, Maggie received several awards including First Place in the American Soloist International Music Competition Classical Singing (17 to 19), First Place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing New England Regional Competition Upper High School Classical Division, and the Classical Singer All State Singer Award. Maggie continues to compete at the Open Championship level as an Irish dancer and is a voice student of soprano Jane Shivick.
