Isabel Schmitz, soprano, is a third-year undergraduate student, majoring in Comparative Human Development and Music at the University of Chicago, and studies voice with Patrice Michaels. She participated in the Berlin Opera Academy Vocal Academy in Kandersteg, Switzerland this past summer, singing chorus in Hänsel und Gretel, and studying Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica. This summer, she will be singing Barbarina in AAMA’s production of Le Nozze di Figaro in Salzburg. At UChicago, she has been a member of the Motet Choir since her first year under the direction of James Kallembach, and is currently the soprano section leader in Motet. She is also a member of Vocal Studies at UChicago Music under the direction of Sarah Brailey. She teaches voice with and is the Communications Director for the South Side Free Music Program, which provides free private music lessons to K-12 children in the South Side neighborhood.
