Praised for her “rich and beautiful voice” (Petoskey News-Review), soprano Erin M. Smithis quickly establishing herself as a versatile and dynamic performer throughout New England.
A frequent performer of opera, notable appearances include Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore with Opera Providence, Pamina in The Magic Flute with MassOpera and Piccola Opera, Vixen in The Cunning Little Vixen with Boston Opera Collaborative, Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro with BayView Music Festival, Despina in Cosí fan Tutte with Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Donna Elvira in an Educational Tour of Don Giovanni with Cape Cod Opera, and more. Additionally, Erin has performed as the featured soloist in numerous opera concerts with the Hillyer Festival Orchestra and performed in an educational tour of Mozart opera excerpts with Opera NH. As an oratorio soloist with notable choruses and orchestras throughout New England, Erin has performed the soprano solos in Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Creation, Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore and Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Magnificat and Dixit Dominus, Telemann’s Machet die Tore Weit and Faure’s Requiem. Erin has also performed numerous premieres of newly composed works as well as the Boston premier of Oliver Knussen’s Requiem: Songs for Sue with The Boston New Music Initiative chamber orchestra. Internationally, Erin has studied and performed in Italy and Austria.
Recent solo appearances include: Mozart’s Requiem with Symphony New Hampshire and The Granite State Choral Society, Mahler’s Symphony No. 4with The Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra, the soprano soloist in Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem with Portsmouth Pro Musica, the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Mass in C Minor with The Concord Chorale, the soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah with Chorus North Shore and The Harvard Annual Messiah Sing, and Baroque concerts with the Falmouth Chorale and Concord Chorale.
A native of Michigan, Erin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education from Western Michigan University and a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Iowa. Erin is a Lecturer of Voice at Saint Anselm College and operates a private voice studio. She resides in New England with her husband, composer Tim Davis, and their children.
