Bio

Winona Martin, a native of Dallas, TX, is a mezzo-soprano who has been recognized for her artistry both stateside and abroad. Most recently, she was named a Semi-Finalist in the Mary Jacobs Smith Singer of the Year Competition. In the 2021-2022 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition she was named the Encouragement Award Winner at the Rocky Mountain Region and the Arizona District Winner. She is the Jost J. and Reine C. Fleck Opera Scholar at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where she is earning her Master of Music in Opera Performance. She was a winner of the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition, a finalist at the Prague Summer Nights Vocal Competition, and Colburn Fellow at SongFest. She will spend this summer as a Studio Artist with Wolf Trap Opera, where she'll sing in Der Freischutz (chorus) as well as the role of Mrs. McLean (Susannah) Ms. Martin’s notable credits include Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Polinesso (Ariodante), and El Gato (El Gato con Botas). This Spring she will sing the role of Nancy in Albert Herring with Boston Conservatory Opera. She is a student of Dr. Rebecca Folsom.
