18 year old Michael Sabatino began his musical studies on the violin at the age of 5 with his mother and grandmother, both concert violinists. He began voice lessons at the age of 11 with Lorraine Helvick at the Belle Arti Center for the Arts in Forest Hills, NY. At the age of 13 Michael placed third in the 13-19 age category of the Freehold Opera Competition. He has performed in many venues in the New York/Tri-State area, including Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the National Opera Center/Opera America, Flushing Town Hall, and the Tilles Center. In January 2023, he performed at the New World Center in Miami as a finalist/winner of the National YoungArts competition during YoungArts Week. Michael won third prize in the New York Lyric Opera Theater National Competition in May, 2019. He has been a certified Artist with CS Music since 2020 and was honored to be selected as a 2021 and 2022 finalist. He was also a finalist in the 2022 and 2023 Schmidt Vocal Competition in Boston.
Michael was named to the 2022 NYSSMA All State Honors Chorus and the 2023 All Eastern Honors Chorus. He is a 2023 YoungArts National Finalist and Prizewinner as well as a Music International Grand Prix finalist in both classical and popular voice. Michael is the youngest person ever to be selected to participate in the New York Dramatic Voices Summer Boot Camp, studying with Anthony Laciura (Metropolitan Opera) and coaching with Matthew Lobaugh (Washington National Opera). Michael is a senior and honor roll student at Syosset High School.
