Bio

Noted for her “precise and focused coloratura” and “angelic tone”, Catherine Psarakis actively performs with orchestras and chamber groups in the New England region and internationally. She appeared as Cunegonde in the New England Conservatory (NEC) 2018 production of Bernstein’s Candide conducted by Maestro Christopher Allen, and as Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with Chicago Summer Opera. A champion of New Music, Catherine also recently played a title role in Boston based composer Jacob Shulman’s premiere of his opera Role Playing Game, and will record composer Stratis Minakakis’ film score Escuchando.

Catherine made her oratorio debut in 2017 as the soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Messiah Choral Society in Orlando, FL conducted by Dr. John Sinclair. She served as the soloist in the NorCal Music Festival Orchestra Pops Concert, and will perform the Rachmaninov Vocalise with the Lowell Symphony. An advocate of intimate performance through art song and chamber music, Catherine has performed in NEC’s Liederabend Series and Community Performance and Partnerships, as well as with the Boston Art Song Society, the Dante Alighieri Society, and the Music on the Farm Concert Series in RI. She also directs and conducts the choir of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in downtown Boston.

Catherine received her B.A. in Chemistry and Music from Rollins College on a full merit scholarship, and her M.M. in Voice Performance from New England Conservatory. She is a recipient of the Presser Award and finalist of the Vienna Summer Music Festival Competition.
