Bio

David J. Baldwin is an Adjunct Professor of Voice at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. He holds an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from NYU Steinhardt, a Master of Music-Performance Studies degree from Bowling Green State University, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Taylor University. He is also a NASM-Certified Personal Trainer, Z-Health R-Phase Certified Trainer, and Singing Athlete L2 Certified Teacher. He continues to train with Dr. Brian Gill and Andrew Byrne.

As a singer, David has performed solo roles with several local opera companies, including Opera on Tap, DiCapo Opera, New York Opera Exchange, Palisades Opera, and Martina Arroyo’s Prelude to Performance. He sang the role of Tiresias in The Bard Music Festival’s production of Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex, and made his NYC Fringe Festival debut singing James Otis in The Boston Tea Party Opera.

He is grateful to have performed with the The Metropolitan Opera Chorus (including the Grammy-Award-winning production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle), The American Symphony Orchestra, The Bard Festival Chorale, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Symphony Chorus (including the Grammy-Award-winning recording of the Verdi Requiem), Music of the Baroque, Opera for the Young, The Bailiwick Theater, and Chicago’s Light Opera Works.

David continues his acting training with Matthew Corozine Studio and Patrick Page Studio. At Matthew Corozine Studio Theater, David created and leads the monthly Queer Play Reading Series.

When he’s not singing or teaching, David is a total fitness nerd, focusing on Strength Training and CrossFit. He continues to find ways to integrate his knowledge of the body into his teaching.
