Devan McCarthy, tenor is an up and coming classical vocal artist that has already shown a tremendous amount of promise for such a young talent. A native Long Island resident, Devan is currently in the 12th grade at Half Hollow Hills High School West in Dix Hills, NY.
In 2023, Devan made his opera debut as the First Priest in The Magic Flute at Aaron Copland School of Music LeFrak Concert Hall. In 2022, Devan made his Carnegie Hall debut as a prize winner in the American Protege International Vocal Competition. Devan has also been the recipient of other numerous vocal awards and recognitions for his age category including the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), Suffolk County Music Educators Association (SCMEA), Classical Singer Vocal Competition and winner of Both the Best Male Vocalist & Best Actor Award in the 2021 Hunting-Tony Awards. Devan has also received consistent outstanding Evaluations from the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA).
Devan participates in the prestigious ArtsBride, Queens Summer Vocal Institute (QSVI), and Met Opera Guild summer intensives for High School Classical Singers and performs Art Songs, & operatic scenes. He is currently under the vocal tutelage of sopranos Dr Sherry Overholt and Jennifer Grimaldi Toohey.
As an actor, Devan was recently inducted into the National Thespian Society and is a student in the Young Actors Program at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute where he focuses on method acting & Shakespeare. As a Musical Theater Performer, Devan has had the pleasure of participating in the Broadway Artists Alliance of NY Program and worked in masterclasses with acclaimed artists including Norm Lewis & Derek Klena.
Devan has also performed numerous leading roles in school and community Theater & Musical Theater productions including Merrily We Roll Along, Aladdin, Newsies, Odd Couple, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Sweeney Todd & The Last Ship, among others. In addition to his vocal & acting studies, Devan has achieved a national rating in Fencing (Sabre weapon) and has received High School Varsity Honors.
