Born and raised in Los Angeles, Karen Kim is an emerging artist with a “lovely timbre and ring”-- a lifelong student of the bel canto style of opera. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of California, Berkeley and is currently studying with Metropolitan Opera Auditions winner Michael Trimble and international soprano Nataša Đikanović. Passionate for the arts as a patroness as well as a budding singer, Karen started off with a decade-long devotion to professional choirs, where she performed as both a soprano and alto soloist across a global repertoire.
Highlights of her career so far include an a capella choral performance at Carnegie Hall, a premiere performance of Lisa Bielawa’s Airfield Broadcasts on Crissy Field, Wozzeck at Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Philharmonia Orchestra, and a performance with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela at Zellerbach Hall. From time to time, Karen has explored competitions, participating as a quarterfinalist of the Classical Singer Vocal Competition in 2022 and 2012, respectively in the Classical Young Artist Division and High School Division.
During her time offstage, Karen works in product management in the tech industry. She is currently ideating software-based solutions to her deeply-rooted love for classical voice, especially when it comes to supporting the singer-of-color community and promoting representation and equity in opera companies across the world.
