Czech-American soprano Ema Katrovas began her career in Czech theaters and concert halls while still a student at the Academy of Music in Prague. She debuted as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro (Kammeroper Prague, 2014) and went on to tour Germany as Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte (F.X. Šalda Theater, Liberec, 2016) and sing První žínka in Rusalka (Silesian Theater, Opava, 2017), and La Charmeuse in an award-winning production of Thaïs (F.X. Šalda Theater in Liberec, 2016.) She subsequently studied in Italy, where she prepared the roles of Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera, Musetta in La bohème and Zerlina in Don Giovanni.
Her passion for early music led her to study this repertoire considerably. In 2016, she was the soprano soloist in Bach's Johannes-Passion with the Czech Ensemble Baroque. In 2019 she sang Hébé and Amour in Rameau's Les Indes Galantes with Ensemble OrQuesta.
Early in her studies, Ema gained considerable experience singing contemporary classical music and collaborating with young composers. During her undergraduate studies in the United States, she studied a year of composition in order to hone her understanding of contemporary works. Her passion for lesser-known repertoire led her to found Duo KaM in 2017 which specializes in 20th century art song. Duo KaM has performed numerous concerts in the Czech Republic as well as a US tour of the songs of Czech composers Bohuslav Martinů and Vítězslava Kaprálová.
