Ava Hoekstra

Ava Hoekstra, singer and actor, is a 16 year old high school junior. She has been humming tunes and singing since before she could talk and has trained vocally since the age of 7. Ava enjoys performing pop, R&B, folk and classical music but her primary genre is Broadway tunes. She fell in love with musical theatre at the age of 10 when she was cast in her first (Equity) professional theatre production FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at Pioneer Theatre Company (PTC) in Salt Lake City. Other credits at PTC include IT HAPPENED ONE CHRISTMAS, OLIVER! and THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES. She went on to play Small Alison in the regional premier of FUN HOME at Salt Lake Acting Company (SLAC). To date, Ava’s favorite role was portraying Dorothy in THE WIZARD OF OZ at the Hale Centre Theatre (HCT) in Sandy, Utah. As the understudy to Lexi Walker, Ava was honored to have performed in nearly 40 shows throughout the production’s run. Past productions at HCT include MY SON PINOCCHIO and THE HEART OF ROBIN HOOD. Most recently, Ava played Sarah in BLINK-A New Musical at the Hale Center Theater (HCTO) in Orem. She also portrayed Winnie Foster in TUCK EVERLASTING at HCTO. Ava has also performed the national anthem at events including the Salt Lake Bee’s at Smith’s Ballpark, the Melissa Etheridge and REO Speedwagon concerts at the Ed Kenley Amphitheater and the IBU Biathlon World Cup at Soldier Hollow. Ava has competed locally and nationally in singing competitions, winning several top honors, most recently placing 3rd in her division in the 2020 CS Music Fall Vocal Competition. In 2019 Ava finished in the “Top 10” singers in her division at the CS Music Vocal Competition in Chicago, Illinois . Ava has been a member/soprano with Rise Up Children’s Choir (RUCC) appearing as a soloist in music videos “Big”, “Spirit” and “Show Yourself”.
