Bio

A native Californian, SarahAnn Sutter holds an MBA and a BBA (Marketing) with a Minor in Music from the University of North Texas, where she studied voice with Dr. Jeffrey Snider and sang in productions of Cendrillon (Dorothee), Die Fledermaus (Featured Dancer), Suor Angelica (Suor Lucilla), Dorian Gray (Schaeuble - World Premiere), and Madama Butterfly. During her studies she also studied Vocal Pedagogy with Dr. Stephen Austin and Operatic Acting and Operatic Directing with Paula Homer. For the UNT Summer Opera Program, she was the Assistant Director and Choreographer for Cendrillon, and the Assistant Director, Choreographer, and Stage Manager for Le Nozze di Figaro. Additionally, she assistant stage managed UNT Opera's Albert Herring and was the Assistant to the Choreographer (Candace Evans) for UNT's Opera's Romeo et Juliette.

Other Texas performing credits include Pirates of Penzance (Edith), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Dorcas), Crazy for You (Betsy), Trial by Jury (Bridesmaid), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Lenore), Babes in Toyland (Featured Dancer), Brigadoon (Featured Dancer), Annie Get Your Gun, Patience, and HMS Pinafore, primarily for AACT award-winning Theatre Denton. SarahAnn also crewed multiple productions for Theatre Denton, including choreographing Trial by Jury, and costuming Oklahoma, Joseph...Dreamcoat, and I Love You...Now Change.

After graduation, SarahAnn worked overseas in South Korea as Visiting Professor of English Language and Literature (ELL) at Incheon National University, where she also served as the English Diction Coach for the English Play Club, and as Producer/Choreographer for Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr., performed by the ELL students. SarahAnn then moved to Germany, where she worked in international export. While in Germany, she studied and performed with Flamenco Wiesbaden, with additional flamenco training in Sevilla, Spain (with Miguel Angel and Bettina Castaño). While overseas, SarahAnn sang periodically in concerts, recitals, and other events, and was briefly featured on Korean television during a singing competition.

Upon returning to the U.S., SarahAnn settled in Chicago, where she has continued to perform as regularly as possible, when not prevented by global pandemics. Chicago area credits include Il barbiere di Siviglia (Berta) and Amahl and the Night Visitors (Mother) with MiO Opera, Yeomen of the Guard (Dame Carruthers u/s) and Ruddigore with The Savoyaires, Pirates of Penzance (Kate) with PM&L, Company (Jenny) and Follies (Heidi Schiller) with Devonshire, Nine (Mama Maddalena) with Brightside, and Merrie England with The Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company. Productions postponed due to COVID-19 include The Pirates of Penzance (Ruth u/s) with The Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company and 42nd Street (Dorothy Brock) with HOTT Productions. SarahAnn was a 2021 finalist in the Harold Haugh Light Opera Vocal Competition, and has a particular passion for operetta and the light opera genre.

SarahAnn studies voice with Professor John Koch. She also studies flamenco and castanets with Ensemble Español. By day, SarahAnn is the Operations Director for Sheep Jam Productions, an audio production company based in the Chicago area.
