German-American Tenor Steven Andrew Murray was born in Heidelberg, Germany to a US Army Father and German Mother. He completed his undergraduate degree at Charleston Southern University in 2009 in Music with Emphasis in Vocal Performance and studied with Dr. Jill Terhaar Lewis. He then went on to complete a MM in Vocal Performance from Shenandoah University, under the guidence of Dr. Byron Jones in 2011. Steven was a Winter Season 2013 Apprentice Artist with Sarasota Opera, where he covered Carlson in Carlisle Floyd's Of Mice and Men in 2017 made his regional mainstage debut with Opera Roanoke in Carlisle Floyd's Susannah, singing Elder Hayes and covering Sam Polk under the baton of Metropolitan Opera conductor, Steven White. The tenor's repertoire includes Pinkerton, Cavaradossi, Luigi, Riccardo, Don Alvaro, Erik, Bacchus, Lohengrin, Walther, and both Siegfrieds, among others in the Spinto/Jugendlicher Heldentenor Fach. He is now managed as part of the Professional Artist roster under the guidence of James Greening-Valenzuela of Vocal Artist Management Services as of August 1 of 2020.
