Jeanette Marie Warren is an accomplished actress and mezzo-soprano from the DC – Maryland area. With an intuition for acting and extensive vocal range, she has been hailed as “a star” for her outstanding performances in opera, theater, and musical theater.
An advocate for flexible casting, Jeanette's theatrical appearances include the title role in Shakespeare’s Macbeth and "Siegfried von Konigswald" in Happy Birthday Wanda June. The Point News wrote, “the rawness and complexity of Macbeth […] throughout the performance is evident,” and the production was hailed for its “brilliant" and "strong acting." One year prior, The Point News also praised Jeanette’s Siegfried von Konigswald as “such a believable Nazi that at times she disappeared into the role in a wonderful, yet scary, way.”
On the feminine side, Jeanette’s operatic and musical theater roles include "Mother" in Amahl and the Night Visitors, "Sorceress" in Dido and Aeneas, and "Adult Women" in Spring Awakening. Her collegiate appearance as Mother in Amahl earned a professional reprise in the DC area one year later. Most recently, she completed a comprehensive study of "Detective Morris" from Jennifer Haley's The Nether; the production was sadly cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
As a vocalist, Jeanette has performed throughout Maryland, New York, DC, and Italy - as a soloist, in small ensembles, and with full choirs. Notable soli performances include Handel's "Messiah," Britten's "Ceremony of Carols," Bach's "Jesu Meine Freude," and Allegri's "Miserere." She has been an alto section leader for numerous ensembles, including the elite a cappella group, PING.
Fluent across genres, Jeanette also performs at cabarets and musical theater showcases. She recently won First Place in both the Classical and Musical Theater Adult Women's Categories of the NATS District Auditions (2019), moving up from Second Place the year prior. She is also an Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship District Semifinalist (2019).
Beyond the standard repertoire, Jeanette is passionate about the intersection of various art forms as a medium for healing and change. Offstage, she creates abstract art, practices modern dance, writes poetry and creative nonfiction, studies cello, piano, and guitar… and she loves to produce original performance art woven from the fabric of these forms. Her published works can be read in numerous collegiate and national magazines, including Sigma Tau Delta’s international honors journal, "The Rectangle." Her art has been featured in Maryland galleries as well as in the collegiate arts magazine, "Avatar."
But most of all, Jeanette loves to challenge the status quo - in art and life. Her recent muse, CROSSING // a revue of gender in music and theatre, is designed to push the boundaries of binaries and satirize portrayals of gender in performance literature. The show has been postponed due to COVID-19, but it will go on. You can track updates on Jeanette's Facebook handle, @jeanettemarieproductions.
