Bio

"Skok has performed the role of Madame Flora in the past, and she gave a well-calibrated performance, carefully revealing the character's anger and madness without histrionics." (James D. Watts, Jr. TULSA WORLD)

American-Slovenian Contralto Heidi Skok, has had a very diverse career professionally since 1990. IN 2023 alone, Skok re-entered the opera world making two debuts as Madame Flora, (BABA) in Menotti's The Medium as a Contralto. Ms. Skok was trained as a Soprano but was really a low voice in disguise. After many successful years as a Soprano in spite of singing in the wrong vocal range, Skok resumed her career as a Contralto in 2021. Early in her career as a Soprano, she sang at the Metropolitan Opera from 1991-2003. She sang mostly under the baton of Maestro James Levine in German, Czech, English, and Russian operas. Heidi Skok can be heard regularly on the Sirius XM radio broadcasts from the MET Archives. She has sung at Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, The 92nd Street Y and several other opera houses regionally. making Contralto debuts most recently at First Coast Opera and Tulsa Opera.

Heidi Skok has recorded on the Newport Classic Label Ned Rorem's Women's Voices. The album sells on Amazon. Heidi Skok has won numerous awards including The Center for Contemporary Opera, The MET National Council auditions, and a Sullivan Award from Opera America.

Upcoming engagements include another Opera company debut in January, 2024 with Mid Ohio Civic Opera singing The Wesendonck Lieder, a solo recital for The Cleveland Music and Drama Club, a solo recital in Mayfield Heights at Christ Disciple Church and a recording of the Wesendonck lieder in the Low key for Spotify and Apple Music.
