Julia Tooker is an award-winning Soprano Vocal Performance student at the Eastman School of Music where she studies voice with Kathryn Cowdrick. Julia grew up in Rochester NY and was exposed to a great diversity of music genres through family and community events. Her earliest singing memories are at holiday parrandas (Puerto Rican Christmas caroling) with musician family members at her grandparents’ house. Her classical voice training started with Diane Abrahamian at the Eastman Community Music School during her middle school years. She has also had extensive musical theatre training in Rochester and New York City. She had the honor of being a lead in seven community theatre musicals where she was able to demonstrate her performance versatility from classical roles like Christine in The Phantom of the Opera and Cossette in Les Misérables to modern roles like Vanessa in In the Heights and Lucy in Jekyll & Hyde. Julia also made her Broadway Cabaret debut in May 2023 as a Rising Star at Ben Cameron’s Broadway Sessions in NYC. In addition to Julia’s passion for musical theatre, she also loves opera and dreams of someday being able to perform professionally at top Broadway theatres and Opera houses.
