Soprano, Ariel Julia Gavriliuc, is a sophomore at Chapman University studying under Dr. Rebecca Sherburn. Ariel graduated from Riverside City College, where she received an AA in Vocal Performance and was a part of the chamber choir and vocal jazz. She also was a part of SOSCA’s opera program, Southern California Vocal Association honor choir, and All California Directors Association honor choir as well. In her time being at RCC, she has been lucky enough to be a part of Chamber singers and Vocal Jazz. Not only did she get to perform with some of the biggest names of the choir world, but she also got to improve on my solo repertoire as Ariel was humbly awarded the Chancellors Music recital scholarship. Getting to enjoy years packed with concerts, exchanges, festivals, she most importantly had the opportunity to travel the world. Ariel has performed in Hungary Budapest, Carnegie Hall in New York City, Hawaii, and soloed in Utah for the American Choral Directors Association Conference.
Ariel is a first-generation born in America; both her parents came to America from a communist country, Romania, about thirty years ago for a better future for them and their future children. Raised with the idea of always giving back to the community and sharing her culture and dreams with others, Ariel worked hard to find a way to keep growing that sense of drive in the younger generation.
That is why she became a board member at A Coming of Age Foster Family Agency. She mentors younger girls, give speeches about empowerment, motivation, and determination, and raise awareness and money for the organization. Ariel believes that music has healing power and allows you to connect to an audience in a vulnerable way that nothing else does. She is very passionate about music, and her dream is to continue bringing beautiful music to some of the biggest stages of the opera world as a coloratura soprano.
