Kate Um is a high school junior currently in the Classical Voice Conservatory at the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA). She has won awards in various competitions, including Elite International, the Musical Arts Competition of Orange County, the Quebec International Music Competition, the North American Virtuoso International Music Competition, and the Ise-Shima International Music Competition. She has performed at Carnegie Hall after winning silver in Elite International. She is a member of the OCSA Showcase Team, playing the role of Child 1 in the group. She has also performed in OCSA's opera productions, first as an ensemble member in "The Magic Flute" (2021) then performing in the role of Sally in "Die Fledermaus" (2023). She has participated in masterclasses with professionals like Mr. Anthony Moreno to UCI professor of voice, Darryl Taylor. She is currently working alongside voice teacher, Sujung Kim.
Kate is passionate in giving back to the community through her performing. She is involved in the organization called Smile Train as a performer for each annual benefit concert to raise money for surgeries to children with cleft palates or lips. She is the Vice President of an OCSA club called Artingual, which promotes youth literacy by artistic means and teaching, including art song to writing. She also has been a student teacher in voice and ukulele for the organization, Dragon Kim Foundation, since the ninth grade in aims to provide free music education to 4th through 6th graders in the Santa Ana community.
