Bio

Praised for her bell-like voice and intelligently prepared performances, Stephanie Kim is a Canadian-Korean soprano. She was born in South Korea and immigrated to the Greater Toronto Area at 6 years old. By this early age, she had taught herself to play the piano at an advanced level, which eventually led to her dedication to classical singing. Stephanie has been extending her musical disposition to dedicated piano and voice students for over 10 years.

Stephanie was selected as a finalist in Symphony on the Bay’s 2017 Young Artists’ Competition. She received first place awards in both Classical Opera and Grand Opera categories at the 2017 Newmarket Voice Festival, where she was also declared the winner of the Senior Vocal Scholarship. At the NATS Ontario Vocal Showcase, Stephanie was the second-prize winner in the Young Professional—Female category. She was a semi-finalist in the 2017-2018 Mary Trueman Art Song Vocal Competition sponsored by The Art Song Preservation Society of New York and a finalist in the Art Song Competition held by Hal Leonard.

In the 2022 season, Stephanie completed her role study of Adina in L'elisir d'amore with Vincerò Academy. In 2018, she appeared as Papagena in Die Zauberflöte with the Blooming Voce Summer Opera Workshop in Bloomington, Indiana. She also performed the role of First Spirit in the same production. In 2015, she sang the role of Oscar in Un ballo in maschera with the Toronto City Opera and performed with Opera by Request as Princess Gudrun in August Enna’s Prinsessen på ærten. In addition to roles, she gave concert performances of scenes from Don Giovanni (Zerlina), Le nozze di Figaro (Susanna), and La clemenza di Tito (Servilia). She also performed in the choruses of Die Zauberflöte and Un ballo in maschera.

Stephanie began her Bachelor’s degree at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester where she was a pupil of Rita Shane. She continued her studies at York University under the tutelage of Norma Burrowes where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts, Specialized Honours in Music. She completed the Royal Conservatory of Music’s vocal curriculum and received her Associate Diploma in Voice Performance with High Distinction. Stephanie is an alumna of the 2022 Vincerò Academy, 2021 Premiere Opera Vocal Arts Institute, 2018 Opera NUOVA, 2018 Blooming Voce Summer Opera Workshop, and 2013 Si parla si canta training programs.
