Melanie Culhane is an American lyric soprano that currently resides in Philadelphia, PA where she studies with Dr. Kathryn Leemhuis, professor of voice at Temple University. She earned her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and graduated in May 2020. She hails from the American south and graduated from the University of Mississippi with her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance in 2017. Melanie Culhane has had ample stage experience. Most recently, she performed the principal role of Adina in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore at Temple University and covered the role of Madga in Puccini's La rondine at Chicago Summer Opera.
Highlights from previous seasons include Melanto in Il ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria at Temple University, Nella in Gianni Schicchi at Red River Lyric Opera, Nancy in Albert Herring at the University of Mississippi, and La princesse and La bergére in the University of Mississippi Opera Theatre’s full-scale production of L’enfant et les sortilèges. She also has professional opera chorus experience; she appeared in the 2017 Opera Memphis production of La traviata. Melanie also has performance experience as a sacred soloist. In previous seasons, she has participated in Druid City Opera Workshop, Miami Music Festival, Musiktheater Bavaria Opera Workshop, The Living Music Institute, Red River Lyric Opera Festival, and Chicago Summer Opera.
