Alexa Walsh

Alexa began studying music primarily as a cellist. However, after she went on a middle school field trip to watch La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera House, her priorities shifted. Intrigued by operas, Alexa started taking vocal lessons with Frances C. Roberts in hopes of growing closer to the desire of having a classically trained voice. For many years, Alexa was afraid of sharing her talent past the recurrent All-County festivals, advanced choirs in school, etc., but more recently, she has branched out of her comfort zone and started to share her gift. Alexa has sung in various masterclasses like Dr. Tyler Nelson's class at the CS Vocal Competition 2024, and has visited with professors from Manhattan School of Music and The Catholic University of America to gain different perspectives on her voice. Her new confidence stemmed from the Classical Singers Competition in May of 2024, but has been furthered since.

In Alexa's free time, she enjoys learning languages through the exploration of other cultures. Alexa began her journey of "language-learning" by singing. While her voice teacher often prompted her to translate her songs, she would find grammatical patterns between languages and developed this new interest. Finding a particularly strong passion for Spanish, Alexa dedicates much of her academic and personal life to studying the linguistics found within Spanish and the way Latin American cultures utilize the language through music and food to form their identities.

In the future, Alexa wants to perform in operas, with, hopefully, an eventual performance of La Traviata. While her intended area of study in college has been majors related to international affairs, recent exposure to people with similar musical interests has been persuading Alexa to pursue a collegiate education in classical vocal performance. Alexa would like to study at a university that fosters interdisciplinary pathways so she can expand her knowledge in all realms of her interests.
