JACOPERA’s International Debut!

Buona sera, miei amici!

Ana and myself arrived in Milan this morning, and although currently fighting off jet-lag, we are excited that JACOPERA is making our international debut! Jennie has been hard at work finding our venue, our emcee, and accompanist for Sunday’s performance. After months of planning, discussing, and researching, our international debut is only a few days away and I am beyond thrilled. We are now in Jennie’s apartment in this gorgeous city putting final touches on the program. We have rehearsals with our accompanist tomorrow and Saturday, and then Sunday is showtime. Of course, I wouldn’t write a post about an upcoming performance without the details:

Un pomeriggio col canto lirico
Sunday, July 3rd

Milano

For this performance, we commissioned Brooklyn-based composer Ivonne Paredes to write a piece for two sopranos and a mezzo. Her composition is called Hoguera de Silencios, and we are looking forward to its world premiere on Sunday.

“Hoguera de Silencios” (Bonfire of Silence) is based on the poem by Peruvian poet Blanca Varela. Everything from the melodies to the sound effects that happen throughout the piece have been inspired by the text. This is the first work that Ivonne has done inspired by one of the poems by the Peruvian poet. She happened to discover Varela after looking for poems for this commission, and found Hoguera dark and intriguing. Ivonne would like to thank Jacopera for giving her the opportunity to write a work for them, and for premiering it in Milan.”

Will send along updates as we go, but for now, this diva needs a gelato fix.

Ciao!
