New Season! New Outlook!

New Season! New Outlook!

Late August and early September signifies a new music season. Whether you are going back to school, starting a young artist program, preparing for auditions or revving up for your next gig, this is a great time to come to the table with a renewed and positive outlook on your future and how you impact everything and everyone around you.

This season let’s answer these questions as we prepare for whatever musical (or otherwise) adventures ahead of us: How can I positively impact every single person, every single musical experience, rehearsal, performance, or class which I am attending and/or find myself as a participant? What do I need to do today to make sure I am having fun and loving what I am doing while I am learning and growing as an artist?

We all have our various daily routines but consider how much consciousness we bring to our routines? Let’s take time to wake up and ‘smell the roses’ (or the coffee if you prefer). Simply put, look at yourself with honesty and even with love and whether you are studying in an academic setting or are engaged in young artists programs or as a professional solo artist, invite yourself to make the most of every moment, every conversation, every coaching, every personal study session. Every moment of your life is there creating the next moment in your life. How you feel and your mental attitude impacts and even creates your reality which means it also impacts how others see and relate to you.

Raising your awareness and practicing this way of approaching each moment may appear easier said than done. And sure, it can be hard. But, to that we say, ‘nothing worth having in life usually comes easily’. It’s ok. Just practice.

Capitalize on every opportunity you have as a student (if this is where you are right now). You have the luxury of time and space to really learn as much as you can. Many are the times we have heard and even said ourselves, “I wish I would have done x, y, z while I was in school.” How can you make the most of your time in school or in your young artist programs this season…this week…today? What can you do to make your every audition and performance the best it can be, no matter what (through all of the mind chatter: “I am so tired. ” “I don’t feel good.” blah blah blah)? Don’t let negativity, in any way, stop you! On the contrary, just think of whatever may come your way, appearing to be an obstacle to your success, as an opportunity to learn, to gain wisdom, and strength. That is what gives a person a kind of power that no one can take away.

This is the year for a new outlook, a positive mental attitude, and, be assured, this is one of the most important and greatest next steps in your career. Yes, of course you can and you should reach for the stars!

This is important not only for you, but looking at the big picture, the world needs beautiful and impactful music now more than ever, so it is important for all of us. The world needs your voice! Yes…this is the year for you to SHINE!
