Please tell our readers about your career highlights, so far.

There have been many moments in my career that I consider highlights. The most recent highlight was covering the role of Michaela in Carmen for Opera Colorado and actually getting to perform it for a sold-out audience. Another highlight for me was receiving my master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music after struggling quite a bit. I also consider getting through yet another audition season without wanting to give up altogether a major career highlight.

What are your goals for the next five years? The next 10 years?

My goal for the next five years is to move from the Young Artist level into the professional world. I also would like to be able to find a manager who could help me in my singing endeavors. In the next 10 years, I would like to be working in regional houses in America and in Europe. My overall goal is to be able to make a living being a professional singer.

When you turn on the radio, what do you listen to?

Top 40 and classic rock.

Who is your mentor or the most influential person in your life as a singer?

My mother, definitely!

What is your dream role, and why?

My dream role would have to be the title role in Barber’s Vanessa. The music is so incredibly passionate and intense. Barber created such an amazing character in Vanessa. She’s so sad and afraid, yet still has strength in her words. I think she is really intriguing and would love to throw myself into her character.

How do you handle the inevitable rejection that is part of a singer’s life?

I really try to be as positive as possible. It’s
hard when you sing 15 auditions in two weeks and only get one callback and no offers. It’s so easy to doubt yourself, your talent, and your self-worth. I don’t put too much pressure on myself for [any particular] audition. I prepare for every audition in the same manner and hope for the best.

What is your favorite techno tool you use as a singer?

My favorite techno tool is my iPod, for sure! I love being able to put as much music on my iPod as I want and jam out on the subway. It definitely makes my commute more enjoyable.

Anything else you’d like to say during your moment in Center Stage?

I try to live by the Golden Rule. I feel like I treat people the way I would want to be treated. I believe in karma and the idea that everything you put out there comes back to you in some form. I think it’s important to respect yourself and others.
