What have your career highlights been, up until now?

Having the opportunity to perform one of my dream roles, Gilda in Rigoletto, with the Amarillo Opera of Texas. Singing in the Nico & Carol Castel [New York] Opera Studio’s inaugural season at Vassar College [in] 2004. Performing the roles of Susanna, Adina, and Clara at Southern Methodist University.

What are your goals for the next five years? The next 10 years?

In five years, I plan to build a successful international opera and concert career—share my gifts with people around the world in hopes of touching their very hearts and souls, bringing a little light into their lives.

What is your dream role and why?

Lucia or Violetta, because they are very intense and amazing women, and both of their stories are so moving and beautiful. The music is incredible, and I would love the honor of wrapping my cords around every single note!

How do you handle the inevitable rejection that is part of a singer’s life?

I try to roll with the punches. The thing that keeps me going is the reaction from my audience. If I have touched them, I know my job is being done.

What is your favorite article you’ve read in Classical Singer and why?

I have so many! Among my favorites are articles with Beverly Sills, Renée Fleming, and conductors, because they are people who believe in and encourage young talent. In a music world that is becoming increasingly competitive, with less work for those of us starting out, it is so important to have someone on our side. Someone who helps us believe in ourselves and our talents. After all, we are the ones who have to keep the torch lit for those who follow us …

Who is your favorite singer?

Beverly Sills would have to be at the top of the list, because she was a fantastic interpreter as well as singer. Next, my colleagues and friends, who amaze me with the heart and soul they bring to their singing everyday.

What is your favorite techno tool that you use as a singer?

My laptop, because right now it’s my baby. It keeps me connected to the rest of the world and music.

Do you have a motto by which you live?

My voice is a gift from the Lord, and through Him I continuously find the hope and strength to go on.
