Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor: This magazine is VERY oriented towards women. It would be nice to have more articles written by men and for men.
—Name Withheld, New York, NY

I sent you an e-mail as soon as we got your letter and asked you to send us an article, or at least your ideas for an article. Women send us ideas all the time, so it’s easier to take care of their questions. You haven’t responded. I hope you will. I was thinking back to the past year, and I believe we’ve had more male cover stories than female, but perhaps there is something specific you’re referring to.
—Editor

Dear Editor: Classical Singer is my lifeline! I tell other singers about the magazine all the time. The articles are interesting and the staff really cares. Thanks for your continued support of each and every singer!
—Mary Anne Stanislaw, Menlo Park, CA

Dear Editor: I love the articles on the voice itself, physically speaking. I like articles for the older and/or part-time singer. PLEASE complain to Big Mailbox about our e-mail service. It can be really awful. Sometimes people don’t even get my e-mails. Thanks!
—Kimberly Andersen, East Brunswick, NJ

Your complaint has been given to our staff and we’ll see what we can do. As for the articles for older and part-time singers, I’m glad you like them—but the best thing you can do is get to a marketing workshop where you’ll get specific help for your needs. We’ll continue to bring you general help in the magazine and do as much as we can!
—Editor

Dear Editor: Your magazine is very informative and helpful. I’d like more articles on people entering or remaining in the business of singing classically later in life, as is my case. I am a “cross-over” singer from musical theatre. I am also an actor
and director.
—Douglas Smith, New York, NY

Dear Editor: Classical Singer is a remarkable publication. I feel for those trying to find out about upcoming auditions in the decades before its existence.
—Elizabeth Hastings, New York, NY

Dear Editor: Amazing publication. Helpful to everyone!
—Judith Fredricks, New York, NY

Dear Editor: Never acquired CS Convention feedback form. Would be happy to give input for future planning. Overall, the experience was positive and inspiring.
—Elisa Billey, Westchester, IL

Anyone who has ideas for the Convention, please write to me at cj@classicalsinger.com immediately! We’re planning it now for May 2005. Thanks!
—Editor

Dear Editor: Keep the articles on singing moms coming. The big issue (June) you did on it was great! Thanks!
—Marianna Vagnini, Naugatuck, CT

We actually do that issue every May in honor of Mother’s Day. But I got chewed out, and rightly so, for not doing enough on fathers. I think we only included one or two stories on fathers in this year’s issue, so next year our coverage will be equally divided.
—Editor

Dear Editor: This magazine is invaluable for ALL singers, teachers of singers, and other vocal professionals. Thank you for your work!
—Frances Brockington Lathrup Village, MI

Dear Editor: One of these days, as time permits, I’d love to write some articles for young singers, who seem to be overlooked by teachers for some reason, especially when preparing to audition. I’m in charge of the scholarship program for the American Opera Society of Chicago and have seen the gamut of how some young auditioners present themselves. Many of your articles are right on target. I always look forward to receiving your magazine. Thanks!
—Charlotte Gardner-Floyd,Northbrook, IL

It sounds great. Please e-mail cj@classicalsinger.com for a copy of writer’s guidelines. (Please don’t send hard copies, thanks.)
—Editor

Dear Editor: You cover the scene quite fully and realistically. Keep up the good work!
—M. Traficante Trump, Yonkers, NY

Dear Editor: You are doing a great job!
—John Morrison, Elgin, IL

Dear Editor: I am interested in early music (Baroque). I would like to receive more information on audition opportunities and festivals, or see more articles on early music.
—Kathy Englestad, Bremerton, WA

We have a new and extremely ambitious auditions coordinator, Lindsey Dickson, and she has many plans for the auditions section. You’ll be seeing many changes in the months ahead, and that is now on her list. Thanks. —Editor

Dear Editor: I enjoy your articles very much, with one exception. They are mostly geared, or directed to young singers just beginning a career, whereas a good cross-section of your readership doesn’t fit that description. I almost didn’t renew!
—Roxanne Schulman, Pittsford, NY

We actually go through the issue each month during planning and make sure there are articles for all three sections of our readership: student, emerging, and professional. I’d appreciate it if you’d write to me at cj@classicalsinger.com and explain what you are looking for that we are missing. —Editor
