It’s time to be great. Not just good. Not just adequate. But great.
Every person yearns to be the best—whether at singing, at sports, at business, or whatever the field. Unfortunately we can’t control other people. We don’t control the elements. And we can’t always predict what way the ball will bounce. Sometimes others simply sing better, make more shots than we do, or run faster. Life happens.
You only have control over one thing—yourself. Your attitude. Your desire. Your effort.
Regardless of others, regardless of results, you can be great.
This week in Chicago more than 500 singers from across the country—and world—are coming to the Westin O’Hare Hotel to compete in the annual Classical Singer Vocal Competition. These high school and college singers have already competed at university locations throughout the nation and have advanced from a pool of 1,200 to this point. They are great. And now they have another opportunity to be great again.
It’s inspiring to see these singers perform. They stand alone, ready to take the passion in their hearts and share it with an audience of university faculty and others. These brave, young singers open themselves up to critique from teachers. But fear of failure isn’t what motivates them. Rather, it’s the desire to be great.
The desire to be great singers.
In the end there will only be one First Place winner for each division. All the other singers, from the standpoint of the world, will fall short. But the results of the Competition don’t really matter. Each singer—win, lose, or draw as they say—can be great. And when you achieve greatness, it doesn’t matter what others say or think. You know it. And there is no better or more fulfilling feeling than knowing you were great.
This week the Auditions Plus Blog will be featuring singers and teachers who are participating in the Classical Singer Convention and Competition. Follow us here as well as at www.Facebook.com/cscompetition.
And regardless of your field of interest, regardless of your station in life, be great.
Not just good. Not just adequate.
Be great.
