The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam seeks highly qualified candidates for a full-time vocal coach/accompanist position, at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2025.
Primary teaching responsibilities in this position include
* vocal coaching
* opera/musical theatre coaching
* accompanying vocal and instrumental students
* opera/musical theatre conducting
The successful candidate will collaborate with the other faculty involved in opera or musical theatre productions (such as the Crane Opera Director, Crane Director of Orchestras, etc.); vocal and instrumental studio faculty; and other collaborative pianists, including the Accompanying Coordinator. The successful candidate will be committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and access in music learning. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain or develop a regional and national professional reputation (as a performer, researcher, and/or clinician) and to participate in service to the college, school, and department through activities such as advising, assessment, and recruitment. This position may require teaching during evening/weekend hours, online, or at off-site locations.
Required Qualifications:
* A Master’s degree in Collaborative Piano or related area, or a Master’s degree in another musical discipline with extensive experience and training in Collaborative Piano
* Demonstrated success as a vocal coach and as a collaborative pianist
* Experience conducting vocal repertoire
* Knowledge of a wide variety of genres and styles of vocal repertoire
* Working knowledge of languages and proficiency in IPA, lyric diction, and vocal literature
